Two traveler friends were once stuck with little money to continue their journey.
We happened to bump into each other on the road, and a quick brainstorm led us to create a project where people could fund their trip by buying a 10×10 cm piece on their kombi to write something.
The inspiration came from the 1 Million Pixel project, where people could buy a pixel for $1. I helped them set up a page and payment system. Everything went smoothly, and many people ended up helping them complete the trip.
This was originally published on my old blog BackpackBook (Livro de Mochila), a project that blended literature and travel, sometimes just traveling in my lucid dreams. It ran as “Vendo a kombi” on February 17, 2014. In Portuguese “vendo” means both “I’m selling” and “seeing”, so the title reads both ways.
The season of traveling by Kombi is coming to an end. I’m going back to carrying my baggage on my back. But I’m not going to sell her to just anybody, only to somebody who has a good idea of what to do with her.
Tell me your idea, and if I like it, I’ll sell you the Kombi for whatever price you want 😀
It was hot,
crankshaft shot.
Stopped the neighbor’s Beetle clean,
traded parts
for bananas green.
Tomorrow I ride,
no looking back,

We asked a Uruguayan what he thought of Melo.
He shrugged and said, “Melo es una cagada!”
Not the best review, but honestly, kind of perfect for El Baño del Papa.
Even so, we drove almost 200 km just to go there, to see the town where the movie was filmed. We were already leaving, slightly disappointed, when I stumbled upon this place.
And suddenly…
We found the place where the movie was set.
I got chills, just chills.
