São Francisco do Sul, in the Rain
26 March 2006
What everyone hopes for on an outing or a trip is not to have the pleasure of catching rain, or at most, just a little rain.
On a ride through this beautiful Santa Catarina we were blessed with it, on our way to São Francisco do Sul, a town famous for its natural beauty and old architecture.
The downpour was a beauty. We arrived soaked at a pousada, still hoping, as always, that the weather would give us a chance. No way.
We had to call a taxi to at least see the town’s museums, which by the way are very worth it.
It’s a downside of traveling by motorcycle, but rain is a variable outside our control. We kept our spirits up, we were well prepared and equipped for it, and it was actually kind of nice. We rested a lot and now we know São Francisco is a gorgeous town, worth a visit in good weather.

In Search of the Enchanted Bakeries
June 2006
We were itching to take a trip or something like it, so we got moving and convinced our new travel buddy, Joyce, to go on a cheap trip with no planning. We wanted to prove to her it would be as good as a normal trip.
We set off more or less aimlessly toward some places we’d seen on the internet. They weren’t easy to find, but every search paid off. Some places weren’t as pretty as in the photos online, maybe the weather didn’t help, but they were definitely amazing and one of a kind.
It was only 2 days, but really nice. We had almost every meal at bakeries, an idea from our new buddy, who was already catching the backpacker spirit, and it was the best idea ($). Unfortunately we didn’t take many photos of the bakeries, but next time we’ll give them more credit.
We managed to haggle over a few things, after all, we’re students on a budget trip, hehehhee… at times like these I’m a student.... which made the trip even cheaper. We spent about 40 reais per person on a really cool trip, though if the weather had been better that number might have gone up, since we’d have done more things and maybe stayed longer.
We went through Alfredo Wagner, Agrolândia, Ibirama and Presidente Getúlio, and got lost in others I can’t remember.

Angelina, SC
July 2006
We’d been meaning to visit this little town for a long time, so on one of those sunny weekends we decided to ride out to it. A very simple little town, but with some beautiful scenery and a really pretty road.

Itá
November 2006
On the way back from the trip we went through Chapecó and Itá. We’d wanted to see the Itá dam and its famous old town for a long time.
The place is really cool, the town built on top of the hill turned out great, very well planned and with a lovely climate.

Treze Tílias
December 2006
We’d been meaning to see this little town for a long time, so we took the chance to visit Brazil’s little Austria.
Small as it is, it’s worth spending about 2 days there. It’s great for resting, eating different things and visiting places that make you feel like you’re in Europe.
