Small Towns, Caves and Waterfalls

Pomerode and Timbó

June 2005

In June we took a motorcycle trip to Pomerode, SC. It was the longest ride we’d done so far, about 3 hours on the bike, not pleasant at all on a bike without a very comfortable seat (the XTZ).

It was a really interesting trip, and on the way back we went through Timbó, another little town that’s nice to walk around.

Unfortunately I had trouble with the camera batteries, but it taught me to get better organized.

The Lost Cemetery

June 2005

In June 2005 we went to a small town, Pomerode, SC, by motorcycle. It was one of the longest motorcycle trips we’ve done, so far… about three and a half hours on the bike, and on the XTZ with its hard seat, it wasn’t easy.

Anyway, we did lots of things in town, and I still have to post the photos I took around it, but what fascinated me most was a cemetery we found down some little streets waaay out in the Pomerode countryside, hehehehe…

I got really excited about the place, it looked like something out of a movie, an abandoned cemetery with ancient graves… it’s very hard to get to, and when you walk among the headstones, butterflies come out of nowhere and fly around.. amazing.

Since we were short on time and the mosquitoes were killing me, I didn’t take many photos, and the few I got didn’t show the place the way I saw it… so I worked on them a little, to try to pass on what I felt walking through that place.

Nova Trento

2 July 2005

Raquel, Jaisson, Maria and I took a motorcycle ride to Nova Trento, SC.

We’ve been to this town many times, but this was the first time by motorcycle. We used the trip to visit the Botuverá caves, a bit further up, about 50 km, I don’t remember exactly, but getting there isn’t easy at all, there’s a long stretch of dirt road.

Nova Trento is known for religious tourism, it’s where the Sanctuary of Madre Paulina is, still under construction.

The Botuverá Caves

3 July 2005

The Botuverá area is 120 km from Florianópolis, a fairly easy trip, not counting a few small incidents, like when we fell into a ditch because I was looking at the scenery, hehehehe… it happens!

This was the trip where I found out how hard it is to take photos with almost no light. The caves are very dark and the guide walks really fast, so if you fall behind, you’ll spend a good while without the guide’s flashlight.

The Gravatal Trail

October 2005

The sun finally ended its strike and came to brighten our weekend, we were wilting from so many rainy weekends.

So we made the most of it and climbed the hill between Praia Mole and Joaquina to enjoy some nature and the amazing view the place gives us.

We’d missed these weekend outings.

Retiro Waterfall

November 2005

We’d planned to climb Morro do Cambirela this Sunday, but the weather looked strange, so we changed course and did a trail at the foot of the hill we meant to climb.

It was an hour and a half of walking to reach an amazing spot on the waterfall, where a huge rock sat in the middle of an artificial pool.
